Elk have become so plentiful around town, especially on hillsides, that the state Department of Fish and Wildlife is considering allowing hunting, although that would require a change in municipal ordinances over the likely opposition of residents who enjoy the animals.

Hunting seasons kick off Sept. 1 with the beginning of dove season in most of Texas (as well as South Dakota). MANITOWOC Opening day for bow and arrow deer hunting begins Saturday and in order to hunt within the Manitowoc city limits, a bow hunting permit application must be approved by the Manitowoc Police Department.
